This is an experiential, psycho-educational workshop for couples and is not therapy. During this workshop, you will be given an overview of the Gottman theory of how relationships work and learn a variety of basic skills and approaches for improving your relationship.
Most of the information on improving your relationship that you might stumble across at any nearby bookstore comes from people who claim to be experts on relationships. Their ideas and information comes primarily from their own experiences, their relationships, their clinical experience, and/or their own ideas or theories about how relationships should work. What John Gottman and Robert Levenson did that was unique was to study real couples.
The ideas presented here are not based on someone’s wisdom, good ideas, or on any philosophical point of view. All of the ideas in this course are grounded in sound, basic research and experimental, randomized clinical trials on what actually works in relationships that are happy and stable.
In addition to two days of engaging presentations and personal assistance during the exercises by a Certified Gottman Therapist, each couple attending the workshop will receive the Art and Science of Love box set, which includes:
These materials will be used during the workshop and are yours to keep so you can review what you've learned anytime. Results of this workshop have been compared to six months of traditional couples counseling and produces positive results for 94% of those who attend.
The Art and Science of Love workshop is designed for ALL couples in a committed relationship. You do not need to be married. If you have a strong relationship, this workshop will provide you with insights and tools to foster further closeness, friendship, and trust. If your relationship is distressed, this two-day workshop will provide you with a greater understanding of your relationship and a road map for repair.
No public discussion or disclosure is involved. All work is done as a couple and a Certified Gottman Therapist is available to provide one-on-one support during exercises if desired. This educational workshop may not be appropriate for couples dealing with addiction, domestic violence, or other serious relationship issues. In those situations, we recommend seeking counseling with a Certified Gottman Therapist.
