A Comprehensive Assessment, Personalized Roadmap, and Focused Therapeutic Experience
Whether your relationship is in crisis, you're traveling from out of town, have demanding schedules, or simply want to make meaningful progress more quickly, a Couples Intensive provides the opportunity to step away from the distractions of daily life and devote focused time to your relationship.
Unlike traditional weekly therapy, an intensive allows us to gain a comprehensive understanding of your relationship, identify the patterns keeping you stuck, and begin practicing new ways of communicating — all within two focused days.
My goal is not simply to help you understand your relationship, but to provide you with a clear, individualized roadmap for moving forward.
A Couples Intensive may be a good fit if you:
Your intensive begins before you ever walk through my door. Each partner will complete the Gottman Relationship Checkup, a comprehensive relationship history, and additional Balanced Approach assessment questionnaires. I carefully review and integrate all of this information before your first session so that our time together can focus on understanding your relationship — not simply gathering information.
The first day is devoted to developing a comprehensive understanding of your relationship. Together we will explore your relationship history, current concerns and goals, communication patterns, strengths and areas of resilience, family-of-origin influences, individual perspectives through private sessions with each partner, and the interaction patterns that contribute to conflict and emotional disconnection. By the end of the first day, you will receive preliminary feedback, practical tools to begin using immediately, and individualized exercises designed to prepare you for our second day together.
The second day focuses on helping you move from insight to meaningful change. Together we will review the results of your assessment, identify your relationship's greatest strengths, understand the patterns that keep you stuck, establish clear goals, learn evidence-based tools to improve communication and conflict management, practice new skills together with coaching and feedback, and develop realistic strategies for maintaining progress after the intensive.
One of the most valuable parts of the intensive is the personalized written report I create for you. Unlike a generic summary, your Relationship Roadmap is a comprehensive assessment of your unique relationship. It includes your relationship strengths, areas needing attention and growth, clinical impressions based on the Gottman Method, an explanation of the patterns contributing to conflict or disconnection, individualized recommendations, practical exercises and resources, and a treatment plan to guide your continued growth. Many couples tell me this becomes a valuable resource that they return to long after the intensive has ended.
Your investment includes:
A $1,000 non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your dates. The remaining balance is due one week prior to the intensive.
No. Healthy relationships develop over time, and lasting change requires continued practice. However, a Couples Intensive often provides a strong foundation by helping couples gain clarity, interrupt long-standing patterns, and begin making meaningful progress much more quickly than is typically possible in weekly therapy.
Most couples benefit from ongoing therapy after an intensive, although the frequency varies depending on your goals and circumstances. During our time together, we'll discuss recommendations that best support your continued progress.
Couples Intensives are considered a private-pay service and are not billed to insurance.
Strong relationships don't happen by accident. They are built through understanding, intentional effort, and the willingness to grow together.
